Twitter finally launched its “target tweets,” giving businesses the ability to do what twitter does best—let users and advertisers reach niches, in this case by location. For Local businesses, the offer will be particularly compelling when keywords are added to the new targeted tweet promotions. The micro-blogging site does not give much freedom for reaching a niche within local areas with the new offer: expect that to follow soon. What local business want is both Geo and keyword promotional tweets. If you run a group of Asian restaurants in Philadelphia, you want to reach foodies in the city talking about sushi.
Google adwords lets a local business target by demographic and search term. But with the targeted tweets, you are paying for engagement opportunity. That means if you have a well-managed Twitter account, it’s time to leverage your shared content and the knowledge-base you now have about engaging local customers.
